From the onset of the Society there has been a special relationship between the Society and the journal Vaccine.
The publishers, Elsevier, recognise the journal as the organ of the Society and they have made a special concessionary price for those people who are members of the Society and who wish to take a personal subscription to the journal. As of September, 2008 a personal subscription to the journal plus membership of the Society costs an individual $100.
The publishers are willing to make space available in the journal for Society business. Thus notices of meetings or other matters can be published free and in a timely manner as the journal now comes out some 30 times a year. It is also hoped that members will use the journal to communicate issues of concern in the general area of immunoprophylaxis, extending into the area of preventive medicine or health-care, so that a lively correspondence may ensue. Many ethical issues pertain to the development and use of vaccines; and vaccines are in the van when it comes to developing responses to putative bioterrorist activities.
The journal in conjunction with the web site and the Society is a component of a tripartite gateway to matters related to the need for and production and use of vaccines. The three elements are mutually supportive and generate a synergism that will give added impetus to faster and more profound progress and developments in this field.
Since 2007, at the 25th anniversary of Vaccine, the publishers have initiated an annual Vaccine Congress that will be organized by the Society. |
